Experiments in Irish Vertigo

Dun Aengus, one of the highlights of Inis Mor, surrounded by a chevaux de frise, a defensive forest of sharp rocks to slow horses.

Dun Aengus doesn't look like much more than a pile of rocks (most of them resembling giant skipping stones) until you get inside the main area and see the sheer drop.

Dun Duchathair, better pronounced as 'The Black Fort' is on a promotory jutting out into the sea. I had this place to myself for some time.

Dun Duchathair, from the inside, with the only other tourists to join me at this place.

Dun Duchathair, from the air, which should give you a better idea aobut the magnificence of the place.
